Global climate crisis, perpetual pandemic, political polarization, military conflicts, systemic oppression — there’s no shortage of reasons why people feel that things are falling apart all around them. It’s no surprise people feel demoralized, stuck, and disembodied trying to navigate their lives and work. If only there was a theory that had a positive response to this ongoing sense of chaos and turbulence: oh wait! David Read Johnson, creator of Developmental Transformations, will share his thoughts on how play and playfulness can help us to acknowledge difficult circumstances and experience more joy by connecting playfully with others.

After a presentation on the topic, participants will put the theory to the test by attempting to engage playfully with one another alongside DvT trainees and practitioners.

David Read Johnson, Ph.D., RDT, is a licensed clinical psychologist and drama therapist in Connecticut and is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine.  He has written extensively on the treatment of PTSD. Though he is not the only one implicated, he can be held responsible for the creation and propagation of the theory and practice of developmental transformations, a drama therapeutic approach and practice of being with other people that promotes embodiment, play, encounter, and transformation.
